Golden OREO Dunk Challenge

By Saira Perl

This post contains a sweepstakes opportunity below. Official rules can be found here: bit.ly/OREOSweepsRules

After today’s visit to our local Walmart I realized two things.

OREO Dunk Challenge

1. OREO Cookie Explosion

There are so MANY different kinds of OREO cookies now.

WAY more then when we were kids!

OREO Dunk Challenge-2

Yes, I had heard of Double Stuff OREO Cookies.

But now there are OREO Thins & Golden OREO Cookies.

This is news to me!

2.The Golden OREO Cookie Dunk Challenge

This got me wondering…

Would dunking Golden OREO cookies in milk taste as heavenly as the original OREO cookies?

Turns out the answer is “YES, Golden OREO cookies DO taste as fantastic as the original OREO cookies when dunked in milk.”

PHEW!

And, of course, we had to try Shaquille O’Neal’s dunking move!

OK – it’s not quite the same move, but the result is the same…. YUM!

“Immaculate” Cookie Brownie Dessert

By Saira Perl

Cookie Brownie Dessert: Ultimate Treat

cookie-brownie-desserts

Since I’ve become a mom, I’ve made life easy on myself by buying the pre-made traditional pumpkin or pecan pie.

Now that the kids are a little older, I decided to switch things up and make dessert with help from the kids.

I wanted to find something easy & unique that would satisfy everyone in the family.

cookie-brownie-recipe

My youngest daughter and I both LOVE chocolate chip cookies, and my husband and my oldest daughter are all about brownies, which meant there was a chance that this mama was going to have to bake two desserts!

With two little ones at home, this working mom just doesn’t have that much time to devote to desserts.

I went to my local Whole Foods on a mission to find a good brownie mix and cookie dough.

Then, I spotted the ultimate dessert…

cookie-brownie-recipes

The Cookie Brownie by the Immaculate Baking Company!

I loved the fact that it was also organic and contained no artificial bleached flour, artificial flavors, preservatives or hydrogenated oils.

Win, win, win, win!

The recipe only calls for:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 4 tablespoons of water

If you’re a busy mom like me, you can still find time to bake with your kids – just keep your pantry stocked with goodies from Immaculate Baking Company.

They have a TON of yummy, unique pre-mixed desserts to choose from – even gluten free options!

I’m officially hooked!

Summer Traditions With Kids: Ragu Pasta Sauce

By Saira Perl

It’s official! Summer is here! The kids are home, hot & hungry! What’s a mom to do!? Luckily Ragu has me covered!

If you’re like me, some days you want to pour your heart into your meals – lovingly & thoughtfully preparing healthy & nutritious food for your family. After hours of preparation, you place your masterpiece on the table. And they won’t eat it.

NOOOO!

Then there are those OTHER days.

Magical days.

The days you think “It’s easiest to just GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT!”

What my little people want is PASTA.

summer kid favorite foods

Thankfully Ragu Homestyle Thick & Hearty pasta sauce is not only delicious but also free of artificial colors, flavors and the dreaded high fructose corn syrup.

BabyNes: A Baby Registry Gift For Mom

By Saira Perl

I’ve had 2 baby girls & both were 100% natural births (the 2nd was a planned home birth!).

For both babies I was open to breastfeeding or formula feeding.

Prior to their births, I researched & bought a lot of the recommended equipment – pumps, bottles, sterilizers, newborn formula.

Somehow I missed out on BabyNes by Gerber, a nespresso-style machine that makes formula preparation quick & easy.

Once I learned about the BabyNes I wondered WHY would anyone need this machine.

And then I tried one & the lightbulb went off….

This is one baby registry gift that is not just for baby… It’s for MOM!

babynes

After each of my daughters’ births I was EXHAUSTED. The feeding schedule for a newborn is KILLER, and I am a person who doesn’t function well without sleep.

After a few days I was too tired to remember what time the last feeding started or when the last poopy diaper was (and yes, you do need to know these things!).

For one baby, I was able to completely breastfeed, but for the other baby, I grew more & more exhausted.

To this day I’m convinced that handing off 1 nighttime formula feeding to my husband saved me from a downward spiral.

I ended up with a combination feeding schedule that worked for us – pumping, nursing & supplementing with formula.

While it was a HUGE relief to have formula to supplement with, I dreaded the bottle preparation routine. Heating water, measuring formula, shaking furiously until all the lumps were gone… all while juggling a crying baby.

Hello BabyNes!

Here’s a little home video I shot showing just how SIMPLE it is to prepare formula with BabyNes.

BabyNes allows moms to easily & quickly prepare formula, all while soothing that hungry baby.

BabyNes gives moms peace of mind when leaving baby with dad or a babysitter or caregiver – they will be able to prepare the baby’s food just as perfectly as mom does it.

Adding BabyNes to your baby shower registry will save you from having to look for better feeding products once you are exhausted & thinking nothing is working right.

While the BabyNes & all it’s features may seem like a luxury, those little moments of happiness & convenience throughout the day are priceless.

Since I’m lucky enough to have one of these machines, ask me what you want to know about it!

I’ll do my best to get the answer to you!

Electronics Toys – Reviewed by Mom

By Saira Perl

[wpcol_1half id=”” class=”” style=””]the good, the bad & the ugly from this mom’s perspective

I tend not to buy electronic toys – not because I think they are evil but because the simple toys are generally more appealing to me. Probably because they remind me of my own favorite toys. Even so, there are more than a few battery-operated toys around the house – some of which are gems & others I recommend you leave on the shelf.

Hoping to help you avoid spending money on the wrong toys, here are the good, the bad & the ugly from our electronic toy collection.

My daughter first learned to stand using the bars on this baby gym, but she has loved the music, lights, rattles and toys since we used the mat for tummy time as a newborn. This is a surprisingly useful toy even now that she is a toddler, as we can remove the bars & the colorful (and washable) mat is great for both indoor & outdoor use (picnics, forts, under kid-sized tables & tents, etc).

It’s nice to have a toy that both entertains & teaches. This cute tea set has a variety of songs – some of which teach kids manners using cute & very catchy tunes. Little kids seem to universally love having make-believe tea parties & this singing teapot gets a lot of attention in our house.

The BAD

leapfrog leappad2

[/wpcol_1third][wpcol_2third_end id=”” class=”” style=””]

Last year I picked up the LeapPad2 because I believed the hype. My own experience has been:

  • It eats batteries & even rechargeable batteries drain very quickly.
  • The applications are expensive with no guarantee kids will enjoy them. They can be misleading as well – some applications have zero interactivity & play only music. What a waste!
  • Only 1 kid can use at a time.

It’s nice for restaurants or travel – but so are crayons and paper (at a fraction of the cost!). Save your $100+ ($100 is just for the device itself – applications are extra at around $15-$20 each!), and instead buy a few iphone or ipad applications. If you don’t have an iphone or ipad, definitely upgrade yourself before investing in a LeapPad2 for your kid![/wpcol_2third_end]

At the time I thought this would be a winner. My daughter does enjoy the variety of music, but I think the music is too loud & there is no volume control. Also, we have not been able to get the bubbles to work, so that seems like a waste to me.but I think money would be better spent on more simple toys for the bath – it really isn’t worth it when you compare it to the plastic stacking cups my daughter prefers to play with at bath time!

melissa & doug puzzle

[/wpcol_1half] [wpcol_1half_end id=”” class=”” style=””]I usually love toys from Melissa & Doug, but this puzzle was a let-down. The idea of combining a puzzle of musical instruments with the actual sounds made by each instrument is great, but the digital sounds made by the puzzle are almost indistinguishable. I can’t imagine it would have been much more difficult to include real instrument recordings, instead of the awful digital reproductions made by this puzzle. If the 2.0 version includes recordings of the real instruments, this would be a winner. Unit then, this one is not recommended for a family who enjoys the sounds of real music (or for people with ears).[/wpcol_1half_end]
