How to Host a Virtual Baby Shower

Virtual baby showers are much easier than an in-person shower.

They can take a lot of stress off the host or mother-to-be.

The Virtual Baby Shower Process

The basic and overall process for how to host a virtual baby shower is basically the same as an in-person shower, there’s just less work to do.

Here are the basic steps you’ll need to take to host the party.

From these steps, you can add in your personalized to-do list based on your plans and needs.

Find a hosting service such as Facebook, WebBabyShower, Skype, etc.
Make the invite list
Set the date
Send out invitations
Figure out virtual baby shower games and the outline of the event
Host the party
Send out thank you’s

Virtual Baby Shower Hosting Options

Facebook

Perhaps the most popular platform for baby showers is Facebook.

It has everything a host needs in order to tackle an online get together, with minimal effort.

All you need to do is create an event, set the date/time, type in the details of the event in the description, and send the invites.

The only catch is that the people invited have to be on Facebook.

You have the option of video for the event and people will get updates and reminders as the event gets closer.

WebBabyShower

There are services such as WebBabyShower that (for a fee) have a personalized virtual baby shower platform.

You can choose cute designs, have photo albums, they have built in virtual baby shower games, cute invites, thank you’s – pretty much everything you need.

It’s around $80 which may sound high, but this is much less expensive than what you’d pay to host an in-person baby shower.

Skype

There is also the option of Skype, which is a basic video platform.

As long as someone has an internet connection, they can download Skype and logon to your group video and you can conduct the shower this way.

You can invite up to 50 guests with Skype.

Zoom

Zoom is another popular option, because it’s simple & easy.

It’s free for everyone to use & allows up to 100 participants.

They don’t have to download an app – everything can be accessed on Zoom – but downloading the app comes with extra features.

However, with the free version you only get 40 minutes of meeting time per call.

You can get around this by starting a new call when the first one ends, but this is very disruptive.

If you’re going to have a baby shower for longer than 40 minutes (which you probably are), you can upgrade to one month of paid Zoom access to remove the 40-minute restriction.

And bonus – with the paid Zoom version you can record the call & download the video file afterward to keep it.

It’s a great memory & special gift.

Invitations & Thank You’s

Many of the services you can use for a virtual baby shower are going to have an invite option, some prettier than others.

However, if you prefer to send out a physical copy of invitations and thank you’s, that’s still an option as well.

There are also random websites that are specifically for sending invitations through email or online.

A quick Google will give you more options in this category than you’ll ever need.

Building the Outline of the Event

When learning how to host a baby shower, it can be confusing on where to start when it comes to coming up with the event itself.

Virtual baby shower games are always a great way to supplement a basic party.

There are only a few routes you can go with a baby shower online however, the games are what can make it unique.

Other additions you can include in the party are:

A live video of the couple talking to everyone, opening presents, etc.
Spread the party out beyond a day and have games, prizes, etc. over a period of time
Have a group video where everyone can interact and talk to each other at the same time

Let’s Bet!

During the shower, let everyone guess the time & day the baby will be born.

You can even include height & weight guesses.

Record all of the answers & then the prize goes to the person who guessed the closest correct answer once the baby arrives.

Finish That Rhyme

Type the line to a nursery rhyme or say it on live video and have your guests try and guess the next line.

The first to get it right, gets a point.

The one with the most points at the end, wins a prize, or just wins – however you choose to do it.

Baby Room Tour

Have your guests send in paintings they did with the baby in mind.

If you have certain colors you’re using or a theme, make sure they know this ahead of time.

You can also have them send decor or something they made by hand, etc.

Put these up in the baby room and then do a live video and do a virtual tour of the room decorated with the items they sent.

Name That “Baby” Tune

Have people post a list of as many songs with the word “baby” in it they can think of.

Give them a time limit and tell them it has to be in one list, not posted separately, as that can get messy.

Sending pictures to you needs to be simple – just ask them to use their phones to take a picture & then send it to you.

Hold up each photo on your phone during the virtual baby shower to have your party goers guess who it is.

You can also post pictures of the photos in your event if you’re not doing video and have people guess that way.

Guess How Many

This is a classic game and one that can still be done online and virtually.

You can do it however you choose, but have a lot of one item and either show it on video or post a picture of it.

Have shower goers guess how many there are of the item for a chance to win.

This can be a baby bottle full of candy, a bucket full of rocks, who cares – it’s whatever you choose.

Name That Baby (Two Ways)

This can be done in more than one way.

You could use animal themes, cartoons, or celebrities.

For the animal version, put up a list of animals and have people respond and guess the actual name of that animal’s baby.

For example, a goat’s baby is called a kid.

For the cartoon version, put up pictures in the discussion or hold up the photos on live video of famous cartoon mothers, and ask your guests to name the baby of the mother.

Same idea for celebrity baby names – name the celebrity & have your guests guess their baby name (the crazier, the better).

Diaper Raffle

When you create your online event, make sure everyone has the address of mom-to-be & invite them to send a package of diapers to enter the raffle.

In order for guests enter the drawing, their diapers must arrive before the day of the baby shower.

Each pack of diapers is equal to one raffle ticket.

You can do the drawing on live video or simply announce the winner how you please – this is up to you.

Name Our Baby

Have guests text or email you with their guesses for the new baby’s name.

Anonymously read out the guesses during the shower & have guests guess which baby names were submitted by which guest.

Each card has the traditional style of bingo setup however, it has popular baby items listed in the squares instead.

There are 128 game cards in all – 115 are pre-filled with different baby-related words and 13 are blank card if you want to personalize them (but you don’t have to). You could write other family members’ names, or where they live, or the new baby’s name or due date, etc).

All you need to do is print out the baby catchphrase cards.

Instructions are included, but it’s a team game.

Choose one player to start & set the timer for 30 seconds. This player picks one card from the top of the pile and tries to get their team to guess the word or phrase that appears on the card. Keep picking cards until the 30 second timer runs out. The other team looks over their shoulder to make sure they don’t actually say the word on the card.

Teams get 1 point for every correct answer before time is up. Then play switches to the other team & they get 30 seconds to get as many points as they can. Play as many rounds as you like until cards run out!

Reparte un cartón & y un lapicero a cada uno de los invitados.

El juego se realiza MIENTRAS que los regalos del shower se están abriendo.

Este juego es PERFECTO cuando la futura mama no quiere ser el centro de atención al momento de abrir los regalos.

Los invitados están viendo su cartón de bingo al momento de abrir los regalos y marcan sus cuadros cuando alguno de los regalos que se abrió aparece en su cartón de bingo.

If you’re having a difficult time finding baby shower games for 100 guests, I’ve been there!

I’ve been to a few large baby showers – I am Indian, so we tend to invite everyone & their mothers (literally).

Large baby showers take a lot of planning & preparation, which is fine when it comes to the food and decorations.

But, you don’t have to spend a lot of time prepping for the baby shower games – especially if you choose one of the printable baby shower games below.

“Yes” to having a few games handy, but “NO” to spending a lot of time & energy collecting supplies or writing lists of celebrity baby names.

Baby Shower Games For 100 Guests

Baby Gift Bingo

Baby bingo is always a popular baby shower game for large groups because it’s fun for your guests & SUPER easy for you!

It’s not easy to keep all of your guests entertained at a large baby shower, but this quick & easy printable does.

Some guests will just sit back & relax while others (you know, the competitive ones!) will be watching intently for the win!

You can have more than one winner too, so game-play can continue for longer if your crowd is really fired up.

No prep needed – just download, print & play.

Baby Catchphrase

If you’ve ever played catchphrase (or watched Jimmy Fallon play catchphrase with his guests on The Tonight Show), you know how fun & FUNNY it is.

I created Baby Catchphrase & customized it for baby showers because it’s a perfect baby shower game for large groups.

There are 128 game cards in all – 115 are pre-filled with different baby-related words and 13 are blank card for you to personalize for your mom-to-be (family members’ names, where they live, new baby name or actual due date, how baby’s parents met, etc).

All you need to do is print these baby catchphrase cards, have your guests get into 2 teams & set the timer.

Teams can be as large as you want & do not need to be the same size.

You can add in your own twist such as:

Each player must use mom-to-be to describe the clue.
Whoever answers the clue correctly gives the next clue (if you want your guests up & moving around).
Set the timer for just 10 seconds for “lightening rounds”.

Guess Who? Mom Or Dad!

Guests will need mustaches and lips to “vote” whether they think the answer is “mom” (lips) or “dad” (mustaches).

Start with these questions & add in your own!

Who was a picky eater as a child?

Who is better in the kitchen?
Who keeps their car cleaner?
Who takes care of the finances?
Who chose the nursery theme?
Who spends the most money?
Who is better with money?
Who is more stubborn?
Who will take more photos of the baby?
Who will be the fun parent?
Who will change more diapers?
Who is more nervous about labor/delivery?
Who usually drives?
Who will teach baby to dance?
Who said “I love you” first?
Who takes out the trash?
Who has more pairs of shoes?

Ask parents-to-be to answer these questions ahead of time or play LIVE with them during the baby shower.

Dirty Diaper Games

There are a number of different dirty diaper games.

I like the idea of a baby shower trivia game as an awesome ice breaker for you guest to relax and have some fun.

Everyone loves the Price Is Right and you can include use your baby shower to host your very own game show!

These come pre-printed, but it would be easy enough to create your own.

Pacifier Beer Pong

If you’re having a younger crowd, this is silly twist on a classic party game.

You can get a pack of solo cups in either pink or blue (or classic red) and a few pacifiers to create an awesome game – especially for coed baby showers.

Guests try to toss the pacifiers into the solo cups – filled with beer (or apple juice for mom-to-be).

This is the perfect game if you’re planning a rowdy baby shower.

Baby Name Game

I’m obsessed with this Name The Baby Game.

This name game is fun for the mother-to-be and all your shower guests, and has options for both baby boys and baby girls.

The object of this baby shower game is to answer the questions with words that can also be baby names.

What Will Your Baby Look Like

Let your guests cut up photos of the new parents & rearrange them to see what the new baby might look like.

The most creative or hilarious prediction wins!

Blindfolded Baby Food Game

For this crazy funny game guests pair up.

You need jars of baby foods, spoons, and a stopwatch.

One person is blindfolded and that blindfolded person has to feed an entire jar of baby food to her partner.

Record how long it takes to finish the jar & the pair with the fastest time wins.

This game is hilarious to watch & everyone will remember it long after the baby is born.

Your guests will get seriously messy playing this game (you may want to protect them with these grown up bibs & you definitely want to put a tarp or garbage bag down on the floor!).

Pass The Present

This hilarious game is NOT messy.

You want to buy inexpensive gifts & wrap them in different sized boxes/bags. It’s up to you how many gifts to get but the more the better. I recommend enough for half of the guests.

Gifts can be things like $5 Starbucks gift cards or scratch off tickets or sweets.

You also will need something to track the time, like this seriously cute timer.

Divide the gifts up evenly among different tables.

Give each table 2 dice & set a timer for 5-8 minutes.

All the tables start rolling the dice, one person at a time & then passes it to the next person.

When someone rolls a double number they run and grab a gift from another table. Once all the gifts are taken then the people start stealing gifts from the people at other tables.

When the timer goes off, whoever has a gift gets to keep it!

This is a great ice breaker game to get everyone excited & interacting with each other.
